When I worked at BYU-Idaho Radio, my boss received a call from a listener who said she heard a young woman on the radio read a quote that lifted her spirits. She said that she was going through a difficult time and that the quote was exactly what she needed to hear. The young woman she was talking about was me. I was amazed by the power of communication in this caller’s life. Because what she heard had a great impact on her, I wondered if I could do the same through my writing. It was at that moment I knew I was in the right major. I love writing for many reasons, but the opportunity to influence—and help—my readers and listeners tops them all.
After graduating from Brigham Young University-Idaho in December 2016, I pursued an internship with Deseret Digital Media (FamilyShare.com). On the first day, my boss announced our team goal to reach one million page views. I was eager to reach our goal and decided to make my personal goal one million page views in a month, too.
After seeing my page views the first two months, I wondered if I had aimed too high. I overcame this challenge by researching what articles have done well in the past on our site, as well as what has been successful on sites similar to FamilyShare. I paid specific attention to their titles, content and photos and used their work as inspiration. Our team's hard work paid off and in March 2017, we doubled our goal by receiving over two million page views. In April 2017 I also reached my personal goal of one million page views in a month.
I'm passionate about writing, reaching my goals and continually learning. Thank you for viewing my portfolio.
